From September 2020 (with full implementation by summer 2021), all primary schools have been required by the government to teach Relationships and Health Education.

Relationships Education supports children in developing positive, healthy and safe relationships, including those with family and friends and through online interactions.

Health Education enables children to make informed decisions about their physical and emotional wellbeing and equips them with the knowledge to seek appropriate support for themselves or others when needed.

At William Murdoch Primary School, we believe that children learn best when they feel safe, valued and understood.

Our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) curriculum supports pupils’ overall wellbeing, helping them to build positive relationships, develop confidence, and make informed, healthy choices as they grow.

We provide an age-appropriate, inclusive PSHE and RSE curriculum that promotes respect, tolerance and understanding, and supports children’s personal development.

Our curriculum is regularly reviewed to ensure full coverage of the statutory Relationships and Health Education requirements set out by the Department for Education (DfE). The PSHE and RSE Policy can be found in the School Policies section of this website.

To help parents and carers better understand how RSE is taught at William Murdoch, we have developed a range of supporting resources, including a video that explains key concepts and addresses common questions and misconceptions about RSE in schools.

All resources are available in this section of the website and include year group overviews of lesson content, alongside a Department for Education guide for parents.
